Rules

The photography competition ”Dystopian City” is public and open to all professional photographers and photography enthusiasts. The competition is not territorially limited and everyone older than 18 years of age can apply. The approach to the subject is free, but the basic ideas of the competition have to be respected.

Every author can send an unlimited number of applications, and each series of photographs on the given subject has to contain between 10 and 15 photographs. A financial aid has to be paid for each series applied.

The photographs can be in color or black and white, but it is not allowed to put the author’s signature on the photographs.

The photographs for upload have to be:

  • 3000 pix on the longer side max
  • saved as a JPEG file, quality 10 (100%)
  • photographs have to be without logo or frame
  • the size of the photographs cannot be more than 4mb
  • Photos must not be older than the year 2020.  


A registration fee of 30 €  must be paid for each application. (Photo Club Split members: 25 ).

Copyrights

By submitting their application, the photographer confirms they are authorized to participate in the “Framing the City” contest and will respect the Contest's rules and other rights related to the authorship and ownership of the submitted works, moral and copyright rights, rights of the depicted persons, names, protected trademarks, and other artistic works in the image, and that no additional conditions or permissions are required for the publication of these photographs. By participating, the photographer grants the organizers of the contest irrevocable and unlimited rights to use the submitted photographs without any compensation for the promotion of the Split Format festival and exhibitions related to the festival. This allows for unlimited exposure of submitted photographs in exhibitions, reproduction of exhibited photographs for marketing and promotional needs, discussions, publication on websites, press releases, specialized publications, social networks, and other media, in any electronic, print, or other form for the promotion of this contest and the contest organizers. By participating, the photographer confirms that the uploaded photographs do not infringe upon the rights of third parties, particularly that all depicted persons agree with the stated use, and that data protection rights of third parties are not violated. All works published as part of the Contest must be free of third-party rights and other rights related to intellectual property, privacy rights, rights to use personal images, etc. The Contest organizers are not responsible for any claims by third parties related to the infringement of such rights. Organizers reserve the right, at their discretion, to disqualify submitted works that may represent an infringement of such rights and to prevent the participation of the photographer who submitted those works.

Awards

The jury will award the following prizes:

  • one first award, monetary value €500
  • one second award, monetary value €300
  • one third award, monetary value €200

There will be an exhibition for the winners of the festival which will mark the opening of the Split Format Festival 2024.

Personal information protection

By entering the "Framing the City" photography contest and uploading photographs, the author consents to the organizers collecting, processing, and storing personal data for the purpose of conducting the contest and organizing exhibitions. The data will be used for identifying photographs and for notifications about contest results, exhibition openings, and awards to authors. Collected data will not be forwarded to third parties.
