The “BORDERS/BOUNDARIES” photography competition is open to all professional and amateur photographers and photography enthusiasts from Croatia and abroad. Entrants must have turned 18 before the competition was announced. The theme may be interpreted freely, provided that entries remain consistent with the competition’s central concept.

Each photographer may submit an unlimited number of entries. Each entry must include 10–15 photographs conceptually related to this year’s festival theme. This year’s festival curator is art historian Jelena Matić. The entry fee is €30.00 per entry (€20.00 for members of Photo Club Split).

Photographs must have been taken in 2021 or later. Both colour and black-and-white photographs are accepted. Signatures, watermarks and borders are not permitted. Photographs created using artificial intelligence or other graphic tools are not eligible. Each entry must also include a brief description.

Photographs uploaded must meet the following requirements:

• A maximum of 3000 pixels on the longer side

• Saved in JPEG format at quality 10 (100%)

• Photographs must have no logos or borders

• File size must be under 4 MB

By submitting an entry, the photographer confirms that they will comply with the Competition rules and respect all rights relating to the authorship and ownership of the submitted works, including moral rights and copyright, the rights of persons depicted, and rights relating to names, registered trademarks and other artworks appearing in the photographs. The photographer also confirms that no additional conditions need to be met or permissions obtained for the photographs to be published.

By participating, the photographer consents to and grants Photo Club Split the right to exhibit the submitted photographs without limitation as to duration, location, dimensions or quantity, and to reproduce the exhibited photographs without limitation as to duration or location for the purpose of promoting the “SPLIT FORMAT” project. This includes social media, websites, magazines, promotional videos, media announcements and articles, and other promotional materials.

By participating, the photographer also confirms that the uploaded photographs are not subject to third-party rights. In particular, all persons depicted must consent to the uses described above, and such use must not infringe any third party’s rights concerning the protection of personal data.

All works published as part of this open call must be free of third-party rights, including intellectual property rights, privacy rights, rights relating to the use of a person’s image, and other applicable rights. The organisers of the open call are not liable for any third-party claims arising from the infringement of such rights. The organisers may, at their sole discretion, disqualify submitted works that may infringe these rights and exclude the photographer who submitted them from participating.

The jury will award the following prizes:

• One first prize of €600.00
• One second prize of €400.00
• One third prize of €300.00

The festival winners will open Split Format 2026 with a joint photography exhibition at the Photography Gallery of Photo Club Split.

By entering the “BORDERS/BOUNDARIES” photography competition and uploading photographs, the photographer consents to the organisers collecting, processing and storing their personal data for the purposes of administering the competition and organising exhibitions. The data will be used to identify the photographs and notify entrants of the competition results, the exhibition opening and any prizes awarded. The collected data will not be shared with third parties.

Entries will be accepted from 5 October to 1 November 2026.
